Throughout my time serving churches by working with children and youth I have tried to pick out key foundational Christian ideas. I wanted these to be concrete and easily understood by all ages. I wanted them to Biblical truths. But I also understood that some of the most impactful messages of Christianity could not be understood until life falls apart.
My goal today is to identify the Christian messages that you think would be beneficial for young people to have in their backpack, so that when life "hits hard" they have a firm foundation in God.
What Biblical passages, confessions, prayers, or theological foundations from Christianity became your rock when the storms of life battered you?
Some current suggestions:
He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God? - Micah 6:8 NRSV
Do justice: pay attention to the needs around you.
Love kindness: take action in big and small ways to help others.
Walk humbly: be confident in God’s love for you, and remember God’s love for everyone.
